The Google offices are known for being “fun”, with napping pods, slides and a ton of free snacks- the slides are usually the thing most people relate to their offices though. After seeing them almost everybody wants a slide in their office. Recently when we asked on Facebook what people would most want in their offices, slides were one of the things mentioned.

Putting one in your office may not turn out to be that good of an idea though…

Google’s Office Design

Firstly, Google’s office design is more than just having a slide, and even then the slide is a carefully selected feature. They haven’t just put it there to look cool; every aspect of their office design has been planned purposefully. They wanted to show that they don’t do business conventionally by having an office that was unlike any other. The slide is just one of the aspects that reflect their business vision into their office.

Why You Shouldn’t Have a Slide

You aren’t Google, and your business probably isn’t that much like Google. Whereas they have a slide to reflect their brand, many businesses just plonk one down in their office to try to be “fun” or “creative” and in most cases it just doesn’t work out. Rather than being part of an intricately designed office space the slide simply becomes a mismatched and tacky feature. You’ll also run the risk of not appearing to be a serious business, which could put clients in some industries off.

That being said, if you carefully plan your office space and come to the conclusion that a slide would reflect your company goals and the industry you operate in would favour a “fun” feel to an office, go ahead and install one.

What You Should Have

We wouldn’t deliver some of the best commercial interior design in London if we couldn’t tell you what to have instead, so we’re going to do just that. To achieve the office design that perfectly fits in with your company, first take a look at your businesses values and identify some of the things that are most important. You might come out with a list of points like “being creative” or “working incredibly hard”.

Then keep these in mind as you design an office that allows your employees to work their best, whether they need to be creative with ideas or driven with numbers. It will be a good idea to ask what your employees want too to get their ideas (make sure to take the slide suggestion with a pinch of salt!).

Once you have some idea of what you want your company to look like, we at OfficeScape will be able to help you realise this. Our experience in this field has meant we have been able to deliver some fantastic office spaces for our clients and we could do the same for you too.
